I welcome you to the 2001-2002 School Year
This letter is designed to help you in this class; it is an outline of what you need to know. This list of boundaries will provide you with the needed guidelines to be successful in this class. Everything I do in this class is focused on helping you to excel. This can only be accomplished when the class does what I ask, when I ask. I am always willing to listen to your ideas and suggestions, but I will make the final call on the classroom environment.
Grades:
Homework = 1/3 of your total grade
Quiz and Test = 2/3 of your total grade
All homework must be completed on time.
Late homework will not be excepted (this does not include make-up work for excused absences). You do not need to give me excuses. It is not that I do not care and it has nothing to do with my opinion of you, so the most you need to say is that you do not have your work.
I suggest homework in this class be done in pencil.
Very little, if any, extra credit will be given. If you are consistent in your work, you will not need extra credit.
Be Prepared Each And Every Day
You must have:
your book
your pencil
The assignment for that day. Bring your assignment with you. You may not go back to your locker to retrieve it. Begin to be responsible for yourself.
DID I MENTION NO LATE HOMEWORK IS ACCEPTED
Math folder with notes and paper enhanced class). All notes for that class are to be kept in this folder. This class relies very heavily on notes, so this math folder is vital to do well in this class.
I Will Not Loan Materials
You must remember all of your own materials. I will not allow you to return to your locker for pencils, paper, folder, book, or any other materials. This is your job and you must come prepared.
No talking will be allowed during class time. You may miss information that is important for you.
No eating or drinking is allowed in the classroom (Gum and mints will be allowed until such time that it causes problems)
No locker or restroom passes will be given. If you have a restroom emergency, you do not need to ask. There will be a general pass available. Just go without disturbing the class. You are old enough to know a real emergency. This pass is also a privilege please do not abuse it or it may be removed.
You are expected to sit properly in your chairs. This means no setting feet on your seat or on other desks.
The bell at the start of class means you must be in your seat. If you are not, you will be counted as late. On the third tardy I will make parent/guardian contact. On the forth tardy you will receive a Saturday detention.
Bell at the end of class is a signal to the teacher. Your teacher and not the bell dismiss you.
Only math work will be worked on in math class, unless you have asked for and received permission from Mr. Berzins.
Students are expected to be awake and attentive. You will not be allowed to sleep during class time. If you are going to be here, you might as well try to learn.
You are expected to try and to think. Ask questions when you do not understand.
Cheating is taking very seriously in this class. I would rather you earn a C than steal an A. If you want to be respected, you must be straight up; you cannot do this by cheating.
Disobeying Any of These Rules Will Result In:
1st offense: verbal warning
2nd offense: verbal warning and isolation from class.
3rd offense: referral to office
I have found if you give respect, you will get respect. Success comes from effort. Every rule in my class has been designed to help students to realize their potential. Math may not always be fun, but success is. I do look very forward to having you in my class and becoming more familiar with you. Thank you very much; let’s have a great year.
Janis M. Berzins
