The MCCSC International Family Welcome and Orientation is for families from abroad who have come to the United States to work or study, and whose children are enrolled in the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC). During the morning you will receive lots of information that will help you make the transition.

 

  • The Morning agenda

9:00 - 9:30 Sign-in
9:30 - 10:00 Welcome
10:15 - 11:45 Breakout sessions
11:45 - 12:45 Lunch and prizes
12:45 Close of program

(*** Information booths open all morning)

 

  • Who can attend?

International families who are new to the MCCSC for the 2008-09 school year and those who arrived partway through the last school year are invited.

  • Helpful Information for Parents

Information will be presented about the English as a Second or New Language (ESL/ENL) Program and other important aspects of school life. Parents will go to separate rooms - or "breakout sessions" - to attend presentations in English, Korean, or Spanish.

  • Activities for teens (ages 12-18)

Middle school and high school students, both new and returning can all meet at "Teen Talk" to listen to music, find buddies, and share school experiences.

  • Fun for elementary school students (ages 6-11)

Elementary school children will have fun with crafts and other play activities under creative adult supervision.

  • Child care for toddlers (ages 2-5)

Your young children will have plenty of fun and good care while parents attend the program.

  • Information Booths

Various community organizations will have tables or booths at the school to provide information and answer questions about their various services.

  • Interpreters

Interpreters will be ready to help in Korean, Spanish, Chinese, and some other languages.

  • Transportation

Free passes for Bloomington Transit buses are available upon request at the time of registration. Parking is available at Binford Elementary School.

  • Lunch & Prizes

Be sure to stay for our free lunch! There will be various kinds of food, including pizza, plus good music and drawings for door prizes.

  • Free Materials & Supplies

Children will receive free school supplies, such as notebooks, pencils, and more.

  • HOW TO GET TO BINFORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Go south on the 46 Bypass. Two blocks past the traffic light at the 3rd Street intersection, turn right onto 2nd Street, across from the mall.

After the stop sign, turn left into Binford Elementary School. Bloomington Transit buses 3, 4, 5, 8, and C9 also come close to the school.
