Indiana
State and U.S. federal laws require schools to provide
information to students’ parents in a language
the parents can understand. Teachers, administrative
staff, students, parents or community members in Monroe
County can request interpreter/translator services.
The
ESL Office can provide for your translation and interpretation
needs for enrollment, parent-teacher conferences,
school events, documents and correspondence. If you
or someone you know need(s) language support to communicate
with school staff, please contact the ESL
Office.
PROCEDURE
Permission:
Many parents prefer to know ahead of time if third
parties will be involved in their communication with
the schools. Some families will want to bring their
own friends or family to assist them. The ESL Office
generally asks the family’s permission before
providing outside interpreters or translators. Teachers
and administrators may request family permission prior
to contacting the ESL Office for this service.
Confidentiality:
Strict confidentiality will be practiced with all
documents submitted to the ESL Office for translation
and with all information discussed with the use of
interpreters.
