Nine
of Monroe County's eleven townships merged to form
the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC)
on July 1, 1968. The district encompasses 360 square
miles and operates two comprehensive high schools,
three middle schools, 14 elementary schools and one
alternative high school. The current MCCSC enrollment
is 10,728. MCCSC and neighboring school systems participate
in the Hoosier Hills Career Center. The MCCSC has
extended day programs for elementary students; provides
an accelerated learning program for all grade levels,
including advanced placement courses at the high schools;
and offers remedial classes during summer school.
The
MCCSC is the 19th largest school system in the State

Degree. Not including extracurricular assignments
or additional days worked for special assignments,
teachers are employed for 185 days per year.
Bus
drivers, monitors, custodians, maintenance technicians,
food service employees, health aides, educational
support personnel and secretaries comprise a staff
of some 1,097 people who provide support to the MCCSC
