Dedication Page

During my training for the Mayor’s Midnight Run I will log over 513 running miles.  That’s like running all the way from Indiana to Georgia!  To remain inspired through it all I would like to dedicate each mile I run to someone who has inspired, influenced, taught or otherwise made my life better.  While reading through these miles, remember those in your life who have made a difference and remember you also can make a difference each and every day.  And in exchange for your personal donation I will dedicate the mile of your choice to your own personal honored hero.  Please check often to see how the miles, and the dedications add up.

Mile 1— Dedicated to my Mom

People may think that the first mile is the easiest but I believe it is the hardest.  After all, its that first step in general that can often be the most difficult.  I dedicate mile one to my mom because she’s always been there for my first step.  THANKS MOM!

Mile 2—Dedicated to my honored hero, Mickey

After first signing up for Team in Training I became doubtful of both my ability to complete a marathon, and raise the required donations.  Then I got my training packet and saw Mickey.  Mickey is 9 years old and was diagnosed in December 2004 with acute lymphocytic leukemia.  If Mickey can take on cancer... surely I could take on this marathon. Mile 3—Dedicated to the memory of my first long distance running partner, Allen Reeves

Allen introduced me to speed work, and threshold training, and gave the gift of good conversation on some of my longest runs to date.  He helped me grow as a runner and as a person.  His spirit runs with me to this day.

Mile 4—Dedicated to my best friend, Wendy

Mile 63—Dedicated to Alice England

For helping me through that first year teaching and providing me with the skills to keep on teaching.

Mile 64—Dedicated to Dr. Michael McDonald, DVM.  He was totally committed to Spay/Neuter and Rescue in the rural areas of Kentucky and Southern Indiana.  He brought his mobile clinic -- a converted old Airstream Trailer into an operating room--to our County one full week, twice a year...on average he did nearly 300 dogs a week.   He had office hours on Saturdays in his Lebanon Junction clinic--the trailer parked in the back of his home--and every Sat. morning, he opened up to do low cost spay/neuter on a first come first served basis.  He had developed a wonderful procedure for doing surgeries in a minimum amount of time, and although he offered to teach/show other vets how is did it...but they were seriously resentful of his efforts and at least in the State of Indiana really went after him big time

Dedicated by J.R.

Mile 65—Dedicated to my very old and dear friend, Dr. Rimstidt.    Few in the communities where he practiced have ever realized the value and importance of his work.  Doc shot himself in the head one Saturday morning a little over a year ago.....the loss to the Rescue/Sheltering efforts in these parts has been immense.  He will always be one of my heroes:  had you known him, My Friend, I'm confident he would have been one of yours.

Dedicated by J.R.
