OnApril 3, 1968 gave a prophetic speech in front of a large crowd at a
blackchurch in Memphis,
Tennessee. The next night he
stepped out onto the balcony ofhis motel and at 6pm
was shot in the neck. In 1983 president Ronald Reagansigned
a bill making Martin Luther King JuniorŐs birthday a federal holiday.Today we celebrate Martin Luther King JuniorŐs
birthday in memory and honor ofa man who changed the
world, a man who fought for rights and stayed peacefuland
confident even when he and his friends were beaten and imprisoned.
