MLK Jr.’s Legacy
“Five score years ago, a great American,
in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the Emancipation Proclamation.”
Martin Luther King Jr. was a black leader who used
nonviolence in a long fight against racial injustice. If researching him has
showed me one thing, it’s that he was confronted by a much more intense
environment then I realized. And he didn’t always win, but he made some great
accomplishments. I believe he was many people’s hero at the time, because he
was my dad’s idol. I’m afraid that there is still much prejudice in the world
that can’t be dealt with because it’s not visible. Some people have hate in
their hearts that comes from their ancestry. You see that there have been no
black presidents in the history of our nation. Dr. King pitted nonviolence
against violence, and came out strong. This leader and world figure was
assassinated, yet his legacy and dreams live on.
