Rosa Parks

 

 

1913 – 2005

 

 

Rosa Parks was a seamstress who helped change the segregated world she lived in. One day, tired from a long day, she sat down on the bus. A white man boarded the bus and needed a seat. The bus driver ordered Rosa to give up her seat. She refused and was arrested. She started the bus boycott and the march toward freedom.

 

 

 

 


 

                                           

 

 

Malcolm X

 

 

1925-1965    

 

Born Malcolm Little, he had to move several times before he turned four. Both of his parents died and left him in a foster home. Malcolm X spoke many times about racial injustice and how to fight back. He was appointed minister for the Nation of Islam

(NOI). Malcolm X’s legacy still lives on today.

 

 

 


 

 

Jesse Jackson

 

1941- ?

 

Jesse Jackson was an inspirational speaker of civil rights and justice for blacks. He campaigned for president and got 3.5 million votes. Jackson joined Martin Luther King, Jr. and SCLC. He still inspires us now.
