Services for Teachers

Bibliographic instruction:
Bibliographic Instruction is an important service which helps students to be
successful when library assignments are given.   Bibliographic instruction can
be as simple as a brief lesson on using reference materials or as complex as
developing topics and search strategies for a research paper.   Before signing
up for library time, check to see if your students might need some library skills
review.  Library skills instruction can take place before students begin library
     assignments.

Inter-Library Loan (ILL):
ILL is a service for anyone who requests a book from another library.  South
library is fortunate to have established borrowing privileges from libraries in
MCCSC as well as from other libraries.  To use ILL, just ask, but planning in
advance is necessary.  It can take up to two weeks to receive the item.

Closed Reserve:
Closed reserve is used by many teachers to insure that all their students in each
of their classes have access to materials.  A cart of books and materials is selected
for a particular assignment.  these do not get checked out until the teacher
determines all students have had ample time to use those materials.

Audio visual (AV):
AV equipment and/or video tapes are scheduled to teachers' classrooms.   Each
room has a TV with access to the media retrieval system and cable TV.  An
overhead projector is also available in each room.  The media area also has record
players, camcorders, slide projectors, audio cassette/CD players, video editing, and
computer projection equipment available for teacher use.
