Bloomington High School North Athletic Booster Club
The mission of the North Athletic Booster Club is to promote the spirit of competition through volunteer and monetary means.
Minutes – June 1, 2009
Board members present: Nancy Boatner, Kris Stratten, Chad Huck, Elaine Gaul, and Jenn Hollars (AD)
Others present: Jeff Henderson (Principal), Mike Baughman, Rachel Robertson, Kathy DeWitt, and Kim Wells.
The meeting was called to order at 6:49pm by Elaine Gaul.
After introductions:
Chad Huck motioned to approve the minutes, Kris Stratten seconded. The motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report
Kris Stratten reported that the Booster Club’s net income from July 1, 2009 – June 1, 2009 is $86,843.81. Last year it was at $78,506.62. The Spring Festival and Benefit Dinner netted $14,660.83. By having the Spring Festival and Benefit Dinner and the IU fundraising took care of the income we lost from the Sports Passes. We have a total of $37,788.00 cash balance available. We still owe $6,981.00 to various sports and we have to keep a balance of $20,000 for any encumbrance for 2009-2010 (for example – restocking of concession stand or any surprises etc.). This gives our total cash balance of $10,807 available now.
Chad Huck motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Jenn Hollars seconded. The motion passed.
Athletic Director’s Report/Requests
Jenn Hollars reported that the gym floor is being refinished and painted. It should be done in a few weeks.
Jenn requested the Booster Club to pay for half $820 to pay the balance of the limestone plaque (carving of the donors names). She took all of the money out of the Cross Country and Track accounts (with Ernie Clark’s approval for the Boys’ account) to cover it, but only had enough for half.
Student Athletic Board (SAB) – four more schools have been added for the students to attend and help with 3rd grade reading. SAB would also like to purchase t-shirts to give away to students to help promote attendance to home games. If they wear a t-shirt, get in half price. SAB will be working hard to get students to attend athletic events. Would like the Booster Club to support and purchase the t-shirts. Kris raised the question as to whether the t-shirts were a funding priority as there was still an outstanding bill of $15,000. Jeff and Jenn have been investigating how much, if any, of that bill needs to be paid but have not gotten satisfactory answers from either the Kratz Company or MCCSC. Elaine suggested that we table the t-shirt question until Jenn knows if the money will be needed to cover that bill. Chad said he will still look for sponsors. Jenn is concerned that the same people keep getting asked to support us.
Jeff Henderson reported that we have one more year left on the Coke contract.
Jeff reported that Bloomington North will be hosting an AAU tournament in July ……(waiting on more information from Scott Bless) Half of the profits will go towards the MCCSC for rental fees and the other half will go towards North’s general fund (which can be used to improve athletic facilities as long as they’re used for classes as well as for sports). However, the Booster Club will get to run concessions and ALL that money will go to the Booster’s general fund.
Old Business
Elaine Gaul distributed the BHSN Athletic Booster Club Handbook for everyone to review and will talk about it in August meeting.
Spring concessions wrap-up – Since there will be an AAU tournament in July, we will need to stock the concession stand. Also we need to set a date about getting the baseball, softball and football concession stands cleaned up and move items to the basketball concession stands. Chad suggested getting high school students to help. This can be part of community volunteer work. Rachel Robertson suggested this may be a good time to raise the prices of the concession stand for the AAU tournament and then carry it on to Fall.

Chad Huck motioned to accept the members elected for the 2009-2010 Booster Club board members. Kathy DeWitt seconded. The motion passed.
No meeting in July. Meeting will resume on Monday, August 3 at 6:30pm.
