REFLECTIVE ESSAY

The principals of the participating schools require that their students complete a “Reflective Essay”.  This essay challenges the student to consider their actions that resulted in their suspension from school, and to identify the short term and long term consequences of their actions.  These essays are kept confidential.

GQE EXAMINATIONS

Students at ATS who have yet to pass the I-STEP Graduate Qualifying Exam (GQE) may be given a practice GQE test on language arts or mathematics.  These tests will be graded and students and their relevant teachers will be notified of any areas in which the student clearly needs more review.

BEHAVIOR SPECIFIC LESSONS

The ATS has a collection of activities and lessons which deal with many of the common reasons students receive suspensions.  These activities and lessons are intended to give students an opportunity to reflect upon  their behavior and their decisions, and look for methods to improve their behavior, their decisions and their physical and mental health.

TABE TESTING

Students may be given a Test of Adult Basic Education(TABE).  This test measures a student’s grade level in English, Math and Language.  Results of this test will be used to identify specific areas in which the student needs individualized instruction.
