Procedures for Enrollment of students who are NEW to the MCCSC
and
received special education services in their previous district
|
- For a student moving to the MCCSC from an Indiana public
school: if
the student had an IEP for the previous school year, we can begin
providing the student with special education services. The following
steps should be followed:
- Make copies of any special education records that the parents might
have. Give a copy to the special and general education teachers and send
a copy to the Special Education Department at the Administration Center
- If parents do not have a copy of special education records, have
them sign an “Authorization for Release of Information” form and send the
completed form to the Special Education Department. We will mail it to
the previous district.
- Confirm that the parents are providing permission for the MCCSC to
provide special education services.
Upon receipt of information from 1 or 2 above, the Special Education
Department will: verify the student’s previous special education program;
determine the completeness of the information; correspond in writing with
the parents regarding special education services in the MCCSC; send a copy
of the letter to appropriate staff members.
- For a student moving to the MCCSC from a district outside
Indiana:
Since eligibility criteria may vary from state to state, it is
necessary to conduct a case conference shortly after the student is
enrolled. With parent permission, special education services may be
provided temporarily. The case conference committee will make final
decisions regarding eligibility and services.
For students with more significant needs, it may be necessary to make
certain decisions in a more immediate fashion. For these situations, the
building principal should call the director of special education
immediately.
For all other cases, the following steps should be followed:
- Because the criteria for determining eligibility for special
education may vary from state to state, the parents should be informed of
this fact when they enroll the student. Refer the parents to the director
of special education, if they have any questions about this.
- Make copies of any special education records that the parents might
have. Give a copy to the special and general education teachers and send
a copy to the Special Education Department at the Administration Center
- If parents do not have a copy of special education records, have
them sign an “Authorization for Release of Information” form and send
the completed form to the Special Education Department. We will mail it
to the previous district.
-
Upon receipt of the student's special education records from another
state, the director will: determine the completeness of the information;
determine if further evaluation is necessary; correspond in writing to the
parents regarding what must occur before a case conference can be
conducted; send a copy of the letter to appropriate staff members.
- Once all records are received and required data are available, a
case conference must be conducted to determine the student’s eligibility
for special education services according to Article 7 guidelines. An
MCCSC school psychologist must attend this initial case conference.
