The Cosmetology program is devoted to learning and mastering basic skills for treating the hair, scalp, face, and nails. IN performing these skills, students are also taught the importance of clean, orderly,a nd systematic habits of workmanship. The receive professional training and learn the techniques required for lasting success in the beauty industry.
In cooperation with the Indiana Cosmetology Academy, students enrolled in the Cosmetology program follow the curriculum prescribed by the State Board of Beauty Culture. Areas covered include hair cutting, coloring, perming, facials, makeup, nails, personal grooming, sanitation, and chemistry.
As a service professional, you will be shampooing, cutting, styling, straightening, perming, and coloring hair; giving manicures, providing scalp and facial treatments; and learning makeup applications.
Students in Cosmetology have the opportunity to compete for prizes and scholarships in competitions sponsored by SkillsUSA, and the National Cosmetology Asssociation (NCA).
The Cosmetology program prepares studnets to take the Indiana State Board of Beauty Culture exam. Students completing the program must pass the exam in order to recieve a license to practice in Indiana.
A successful student in Coismetology should have good attendance, a positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, show an aptitude in health and life sciences, and have artistic interests.
Students will be in class Monday through Friday from 12:30pm-4:30pm. IN addition, some Saturday hours will be required during the second year. Students must complete a total of 1500 hours of instruction. The cost of the program is approximately $500.00 per student. Students must supply shoes, uniform, and transportation.
This course meets at the Indiana Cosmetology Academy, located at 3612 W. Third Street, in Highland Village between Big Lots and Marsh.
Length of Course: Two Years
