Lilly Endowment Fundraising Project
for MCCSC Libraries
In March, 1999, the Foundation of Monroe County
Community Schools was chosen as one of twelve "Community
Partners" by the Community foundation of Bloomington and Monroe
County. Our challenge was to raise $25,000 from the community by
Mary, 1999. We met this challenge, and thus, we received a $50,000
grant from the Lilly Endowment that will be used to upgrade all MCCSC
school libraries. This grant will be divided among the libraries
based on each school's enrollment. The $25,000 that was raised
last spring started an endowment fund with the Community Foundation, and
will be matched by the Lilly Endowment in the amount of $6,250.
The interest from this endowment will be used to help school libraries
in the years to come.
With the generous support of the following individuals
and businesses, we exceeded our goal! A total of $32,373 was
raised for our libraries. The amount over the $25,000 goal was
added to our endowment and ensures that all funds raised will be used
for the MCCSC school libraries.

"As one of the smaller schools in
the MCCS, the relatively smaller yearly budget needs to be
stretched over seven grade levels (K-6). Consequently,
maintaining a timely reference collection has proved
challenging. The Lilly Endowment grant funds will be most
