Annual Report September 1, 1998 - August 31, 1999

The Foundation of Monroe County Community Schools, Inc. raised over $70,000 from the community in fiscal year 1998/99. This amount met our budget for the year and allowed us to fund many creative educational projects for the students in MCCSC.

We also raised over $32,000 in just two months for the MCCSC libraries.  The money raised established an endowment fund with the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, and qualified the Foundation of MCCS for a $50,000 grant from the Lilly Endowment.  The interest from this new endowment fund will be used to support the MCCSC libraries in the years to come.  The $50,000 grant was received in September, 1999, and distributed on a per pupil basis to all twenty of the MCCSC libraries.

The education license plate continues to generate substantial funds for the Foundation.  This year, almost $8,000 was given to the MCCSC from those individuals buying the education plate and indicating the MCCSC as the recipient.  Also successful is the Thank-a-Teacher project.  A total of $4,042 was donated to the Foundation through this program which honored over 300 teachers and staff.
