[Current Draft] Electronic Portfolio Project
[PDF]
[First Draft] Good Teaching Through Technology
Integrating Technology Curriculum
Drafted 7/10/01
Goal
To take the existing writing
portfolio and create a digital (electronic) portfolio on a compact disc
(CD) for each student.
Objective
The objective to creating a
digital portfolio is to improve proficiency in writing across the
curriculum. The electronic portfolio will also enhance the unified
writing program throughout Jackson Creek Middle School.
Rational
By contributing to the
digital portfolio every six weeks, students will understand the importance
of writing in all subject matters. The digital portfolio will also be in
accordance with the PBA improvement plan, Public Law 221, integrating
technology according to MCCSC standards, and provide an opportunity for
professional growth for all faculty members.
Student Requirements
Each student will create a
File Folder in their locker for each class they will have during the
school year. They will also create a folder labeled PORTFOLIO. (This will
be done in the Language Arts classes)
The student will place all writing assignments from each class in the
appropriate file folder for later selection.
Every six weeks the student will select three projects and place them
in the file folder labeled PORTFOLIO. The student will receive a rubric
and grade every six weeks for accomplishing this task. (This will be done
in the Language Arts classes)
At the end of the 2001-2002 school year, the student will receive a
CD. During the team classes, the student will be asked to transfer all
documents located in the PORTFOLIO file and burn them onto their digital
portfolio CD.
A representative piece of writing will be required from each subject
area in their PORTFOLIO file.
Teacher Requirements
Every classroom teacher will
use existing technology to help students create writing projects to be
included in student digital portfolios.
A writing sample from every class will be required each six weeks in
every subject.
Handwritten assignments may be placed in the electronic portfolio. It
is the teacher's responsibility to make sure that the project is either
scanned or has had a digital camera image taken. That product must be
placed in the student locker for selection in the digital portfolio.
Each team or department will create a multimedia station (in teams it
will be the back computer in the Language Arts class) where a CD burner
and scanner will be located for easy access.
Each teacher will be accountable at the end of the six weeks for
providing, at minimum, one writing assignment for each student to place in
their portfolio file in their locker.
Optional: Students may include non-writing (i.e. art) in the
electronic portfolio. This is an addition to, not a replacement for, a
written assignment.
