Management and Implementation Strategies for Technology Integration within Batchelor Middle School:

  1. Determine accessibility
    1. Number of computers available (140 +)
    2. Number of access hours available per day and/or week (6 hours per day)
  1. Determine access style

    2. Multiple interfaces (scanner and microphone)
  1. Take steps 1 through 4 and write a project plan with the following components:
    1. Project name: B.M.S. Environmental Issues Study
    2. Grade level: 7th grade
    3. Curricular area(s): Writers Workshop (English), social studies
    4. Goals and objectives:
    5. Goals: Using Word and PowerPoint, 7th graders will create a collaborative, cross-curricular presentation based on a social studies topic.

Objectives: Same as Standards (See below)

    6. Project instruction
      1. Introduction: In Writers Workshop, students will be introduced to Word and PowerPoint while being instructed on language mechanics. Once completed, social studies will begin instruction on research and referencing. Then, students will begin researching global and environmental issues.
      2. Task: Using PowerPoint, Word, and research skills
      3. Activities: researching in the media center and working with groups
      4. Process: working in Writers Workshop to create the essay on Word and the presentation on PowerPoint; in social studies, researching and collaborating to design a presentation and essay * See attachments

      7. Conclusion: PowerPoint presentation, essay assessment, and classroom discussion
  1. Suggested procedures for smooth operation
    • Create 'tickets' for computer/media center use as project progresses
    • Breaking down the ultimate project into its component parts, each with its own deadline, and tracking group progress along these lines
  1. Standards: * See attachments
    Attachments are in Acrobat PDF
    • Social Studies Plan and Standards
    • Language Arts Standards and Planning Sheets
    • Writers Workshop Presentation Planning
    • Evaluation Instruments
    • Grading Rubrics
  1. Project extensions:
    • In line with student reflection on the project, the teachers will set aside a time to gather and assess the project and make revisions for future use
    • Implementing a school-wide standard for a bibliography
    • Sharing with fellow teachers the knowledge of Word and PowerPoint use
    • Put this project on the web
