Opportunities for students at Fairview, Highland Park and Grandview Elementary School

Students who attend Fairview, Highland Park, and Grandview Elementary School and are eligible for free or reduced lunch and are considered non-proficient in the area of English/Language Arts and/or Math are eligible to enroll in a free tutoring program, known as Supplemental Educational Services (SES). This program allows eligible students to receive free tutoring and academic assistance in subjects such as Reading, English, and/or Math in effort to assist these students in improving their academic performance.

SES tutoring from ATS Project Success takes place on a computer in the child's home. The tutoring company of Club Z also does tutoring at the home. Summer Advantage offers tutoring at the school, but a minimum number of students is required in order to begin the tutoring.

In 2007-2008, 537 students were eligible and 88 students participated in SES in MCCSC. In 2008-2009, 455 students were eligible and 78 participated. In 2009-2010, 110 fourth, fifth, and sixth grades students will be eligible and we are still determining the number of eligible students for kindergarten through third grade. These tutoring programs may be offered before or after the regular school day, on weekends, or in the summer. In order to select the tutoring organization that will best meet your child's needs, please review the attached list of state approved Supplemental Education Service Providers and a description of their services.

If you would like for your child to receive these free services, please complete the SES Application and return it to your child's school office as soon as possible.

School choice transfers are offered in schools which have missed AYP for several consecutive years. School choice is ONLY offered prior to the start of the school year to current students, and to new students at enrollment. Parents are able to request a school choice transfer to attend one of the schools on the approved list that is not in school improvement and which has space to accommodate the student. The school choice schools for 2009-2010 are Unionville and Marlin.

In 2007-2008, Fairview was the only school offering school choice transfers, 315 students were eligible and 42 participated in school choice. Fairview and Highland Park Elementary School offered school choice for the 2008-2009 school year, 641 students were eligible and 22 students participated in school choice. Fairview, Highland Park, and Grandview Elementary School offered school choice for the 2009-2010 school year and 1,067 students were eligible and 13 students have opted for school choice.
