"This I Believe"

Student Speeches

Throughout this semester we have thought about the tension between our ideals and our reality. We have discussed and carefully thought about what it means when our ethics conflict with our morals. As a culminating assignment, students were asked to write a speech which illuminated one of their own core beliefs. This assignment was based on National Public Radio's "This I Believe" essay program (a revival of Edward R. Murrow's series from the 1950s). The following speeches were given in front of a live classroom audience. It it our hope that you will be proud to hear what our teenagers consider core values. Enjoy listening!

Instructions for listening: The speeches are saved as Windows Media Player Audio Files. You can either listen to the speech by left-clicking on the speech's link and opening the file, or you can download the file to your hard drive by right-clicking on the speech's link and choosing the "Save Link/Target As..." option.
