SHOULD I CONSIDER JOINING PHI DELTA KAPPA?

Yes, you should if you are going to become an educator in the field or work in public education in another capacity, PDK can be your professional helper via its many services.

***Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) is an Education Honorary that just happens to have its international headquarters in Bloomington! Their membership roster includes educators at all levels (elementary, middle, secondary, and college) and they also welcome student members. Being a member of PDK is a great way to meet other professionals and to keep on top of education issues and news.

WHAT DO I GET FOR MY MEMBERSHIP?

Membership includes a subscription to the KAPPAN journal, an outstanding publication that keeps you up-to-date on the latest issues in education (take a look at it in the Education library). Visit the Phi Delta Kappa website at http://www.pdkintl.org to see everything that PDK has to offer -- scholarships, travel opportunities, publications, seminars, etc.

HOW DO I JOIN?

Contact Christine Freeman (cfreeman@mccsc.edu) for more information about joining. You may direct yourself to the Officers page. You can then ask all the questions you may have and find out when initiations are occurring.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM PLANNING ON LOCATING SOMEWHERE ELSE?

If you are initiated into the PDK chapter here, you can transfer to another chapter if you later re-locate somewhere else. There are PDK chapters all over the world. But many of our initiates keep their membership with the IU chapter. After all, we are the ALPHA chapter and just celebrated our 100th Anniversary in 2006. Wherever your membership, you will have an immediate "in" with educators in your new home because of your PDK ties!
