A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Fellow Kappans,

Winter finally arrived with an ice storm on Thursday, February 21st, the day we were scheduled to hold our last chapter meeting. Our presenter, Darla Bent, last year’s Bloomington Wal Mart Teacher of the Year, was ready to make the drive from Bloomfield when a decision was made to cancel. It was disappointing not to be able to hear Darla’s presentation on “Teaching with Herb Gardening” but we were comforted in knowing that she was safe and sound at home rather than driving on an ice-covered highway. Hopefully we can reschedule this program again at a later time – probably in the fall.

And now our chapter has one final event planned for this year – and it is one we are anxiously awaiting. Last year, we held a Student Showcase when teachers and students from the Monroe County Community School Corporation displayed examples of work from their classrooms. What a successful evening this was with a large turnout of students, teachers, parents, administrators, PDK members, and friends from the community. Since it was our hope that this could become an annual event, we are presenting our second showcase this year.

On Tuesday, April 8, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., we will gather at the PDK Conference Center to be entertained by student musical performances, see examples of student work, and listen to students explain classroom projects and activities. We anticipate another exciting evening. We hope you will bring your friends and join us on the 8th for this celebration of learning.
