Reading Program
Fifth and Sixth GradesThe reading program is based upon the proficiencies and standards as stated in the Indiana Department of Education's guidelines for Indiana Students.
These proficiencies are met through the following:

Anthology Book/Workbook pages
Lessons and assignments are given daily to corresond with the story the students are reading in their textbooks.Independent Reading Assignments
Each student is responsible for reading a specific book during each nine week grading period. There will be written work assigned for each book along with classroom discussions.The Students will be assessed by the following:
Story Tests
Story Tests are given at the end of each textbook story. It is helpful for the students for the students to read the story again and to look over the vocabulary words the night before the test.Unit Tests
Tests given after each unit in the reading textbook. A unit consists of 5 stories. This is an excellent tool that shows what skills were mastered and what areas need additional support. These tests are similar to the standardized tests the students will be given in fifth and sixth grades.Independent Reading Logs
Students are required to log any time they spend reading independently on their assignments sheets. A parent signature is required on this sheet weekly.
