The scholarships listed below are generally available to senior level students. If the scholarship is open to other grade levels, it will be indicated under the "Criteria" category. Title:

Society of Women Engineers Regional High School Rube Goldberg Machine Contest

School:

Criteria:

Contest is held at Purdue University’s Armory on Saturday, February 21, 2009.  The winners of the Regional High School Competition will go on to compete at the National Competition also held at Purdue University on March 28, 2009.  The national challenge this year is to replace an incandescent light bulb with a more energy efficient light emitting design.

AXA Achievement Scholarship Program

$10,000 for 52 students (one from each state) and 10 national recipients will receive $15,000

Criteria:

High school seniors that have demonstrated a drive to succeed through their accomplishments in high school. To qualify, students should be well-rounded, determined to do their personal best and have demonstrated achievement - at a job, sport, or extracurricular activity. Essentially, these students are achievers – people who will succeed in life because they possess an extra element of grit and determination.

Criteria:

Common application. Scholarship process begins after a student has gained admission to the University. Merit-based - Class rank, G.P.A, & SAT scores important (1500 out of 2400).  Exhibit leadership experience and potential, earn a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, SAT Scores 1500, and achieve a ranking in the top 10 percent of graduating class.

Title:

First Freedom Student Competition

School:

Value:

$3,000, $1,500, and $750 awards

Criteria:

Open to students in 9th-12th grades nationwide. Essay contest examining religious freedom, its history, current importance and relevance in their lives. Students address the famous statement by George Washington about “mere” toleration in his 1790 letter to the Jewish congregation of Newport, Rhode Island.  Students will identify the basic principles of religious liberty espoused in this primary document and will further research and assess how well the United States has lived up to Washington’s ideal.  In addition to the monetary award, the first-place winner and his or her teacher (or other adult chaperone) will receive an all-expense paid trip to Newport, Rhode Island in mid-August 2009 for the annual VIP reading of President Washington’s historic letter.

Title:

The National Association of Secondary School Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

School:

Value:

$1,000 award for state winners. Ten National Honorees will be named America’s top ten youth volunteers by a prestigious panel of national judges. They will receive an additional $5,000, a gold medallion, and a beautiful crystal trophy for their schools.

Criteria:

Be enrolled in grades 5-12, describe a volunteer community service activity performed at least in part after September 1 and not be employees of NASSP, CSFA, Prudential or its affiliates; their children; or previous national award recipients.  Application available online.

Ron Brown Scholar Program

Twenty (20) scholarships awarded in the amount of $10,000 per year. $40,000 financial stipend over 4 years.

Criteria:

Students must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card, African-American high school senior that excels academically, exemplifies exceptional leadership potential, makes an impact on their communities, and demonstrates financial need. A student may apply for the Ron Brown Scholar Program and have their application forwarded to a select and limited number of additional scholarship providers if they apply by November 15th. Otherwise, the January 9th deadline will only be for the Ron Brown Scholar Program.

Intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science, be a U.S. citizen, be a high school junior or senior, have a least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average for 10th and 11th grade, and meet minimum requirements with regard to SAT or ACT scores as outlined in the individual requirements of each scholarship.

Criteria:

Applicants must participate in school activities, proposed major in health, physical education, recreation, or dance fields at an Indiana college or university, participate in community activities, academic achievement, and have financial need.  Majors in such fields as pre-medicine, nursing, physical therapy, engineering, dental hygiene, and other allied health professions are NOT within the fields represented in IAHPERD and CANNOT be considered for these scholarships.

Value:

Maximum annual scholarship is $5,000 and can only be applied towards tuition and fees. Colleges will determine the actual award amount when developing a scholar’s financial aid package. The amount of the scholarship may be affected by the level of other tuition-specific grants and scholarships aid received by the applicant.

Criteria:

Open to a nursing student who is an Indiana resident, is admitted or attending an approved college/university as a full-time or part-time nursing student, demonstrates financial need for the scholarship.

State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) - Minority Teacher and Special Education Services Scholarship Program

Value:

Maximum annual scholarship is $1,000, however, if the applicant (minority students only) demonstrates financial need he/she may be eligible to receive up to $4,000 annually.

Criteria:

Minority student defined as Black or Hispanic, individuals pursuing a Special Education teaching or Occupational or Physical Therapy certification, Indiana resident attending an eligible Indiana college, students admitted or attending a college/university on a full-time basis (usually defined as 12 credit hours per term), students who maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or G.P.A. requirement from their schools of Education or Occupational and Physical Therapy, if it is h higher.
