7TH
GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS
Mrs.
Kristin Poage
In 7th
grade literature we will be studying different areas of conflict, world, and
discovery. Each literature unit is based
on an anchor piece, usually a novel, with supplemental literature from poetry,
short stories, essays, and folktales. At
times throughout the year students will be having interdisciplinary units in
which we will study a broad subject over all of their team classes.
Reading
requirements will consist of reports, reading journals, reading logs, and daily
reading, and free reading time.
There will
be several ways in which students will fulfill writing requirements. These will be through portfolio, journal,
demand writings, interviews, and a research project. There will also be several
personal essays, poetry writings and other self-selected writings.
Students will be
doing word processing, internet research, and using Power Point and similar
programs.
Grammar will be given in different
forms every week during the school year.
We
will be doing a variety of oral demonstrations including discussions, group
presentations, and formal or informal speeches.
Work is expected to be turned in at the
time it is due. In some instances no late work will be accepted. In others a parent note will be required
along with a point deduction. Grades are
based on a point system with each piece being assigned a point value. The grade the student receives is determined
by the points they have earned divided by the points possible.
In my class
students are expected to treat others and me with the utmost respect. It is the students’ responsibility to come to
class prepared, willing to work, and to participate every day.
My
goal is to provide a learning-friendly environment for all students. If you have any questions, please call
