The Language Arts program will be based upon the standards as stated in the Indiana Department of Education’s guidelines for Indiana Students.

      Every week students will learn grammar skills that coordinate with the Indiana standards.  The English language is a very difficult language to master, and it is our desire for every student to be proficient in language skills.

     We will use the English text and workbook along with other strategies to learn basic grammar and writing skills.  Students will work on English nearly every day.  Each unit in the English book consists of grammar skills connected to writing.  At the end of each unit students will be assessed over the grammar skills and will be expected to complete a major writing assignment.

      Spelling text pages are assigned in class on Mondays.  Each teacher has a little different plan on when they should be completed. The rest of the week is spent studying and practicing the words.  There is a post-test on Friday of each week that counts towards the final grade in spelling.
