Family And Consumer Science Department
Management Policies
Mrs. Galyan Mrs. Pemberton
The courses that are taught in the Family and Consumer Science (FACS) department are a little different than most courses you take here in BHSN. You truly can be the master of your destiny. You can decide today what grade you want to earn in this class and that can become a reality. WHY? Because of the practicality of the subject matter that we teach, the assignments and the assessments are very "hands on". If you simply follow directions and complete EVERY assignment, you will do well. The students that fail these classes are the ones that dont make up missed assignments and labs. They simply do not turn in work.
Make Up Work: It is entirely your responsibility to see your teacher about make up work. If you are absent, you must make necessary arrangements to get caught up. As stated in the student handbook, an excused absence means that you have the right to make up the work. It does not mean that you are excused from doing the work. You will have the same number of class periods that you were absent to turn in the make up work. On the day you return to school, find out what assignments you missed and get any necessary papers. I will not contact you about make up work. There may be specific penalties for particular classes for example, you may not participate in a cooking lab if you have any missing work due to an absence.
Late Work: If you do not turn assignments in on time, you could receive a deduction in your grade. If you have two missing assignments, your teacher will call home to discuss the situation with your parent/guardian.
Tardies: You will be considered tardy if you are not sitting in your assigned seat when the bell rings. As stated in the student handbook, there is one free tardy given first period. All tardies will be recorded electronically. The first three tardies will result in an after school detention. After the third tardy, a parent will be called to inform him/her of the difficulty with tardies. The fourth one will be written up as a disciplinary office referral (DOR) and a Thursday school will be assigned.
Dress Code:
Food and Drink: Do not bring food and drink to class. Chewing gum is fine as long as it stays in your mouth.
Electronic Devices: All electronic devices are to be confiscated between the hours of 8:00 and 2:30. Your parent will have to come to school to retrieve the item that taken away. Please do not make it necessary for something to be taken away from you.
Backpacks: Never in the classroom! Leave them in your locker.
Respect: Each student is expected to treat other students and the teacher with respect. You will receive the same due respect.
Live your life in such a way that when people think of caring, fairness, and integrity, they think of .YOU!
