Grades will be based on report & test scores (35%), classroom work (25%), homework assignments (20%) and final exam (20%).  There are three terms (6 weeks) for each semester. Grades will be calculated as accumulative totals, a semester grade will be reported in place of 6 week grades:

Assignments and grades will be posted on www.mccsc.edu/~adehner as soon as possible.  To access your student’s grades, you need to know what period they have science and their password.  Grades are usually updated once a week.

Homework:  Earth Space Science is an academic class.  Homework is assigned frequently and is due at the beginning of class.  It is the student’s responsibility to find out what assignments were missed during an absence.  Students will be permitted one day per excused absence day to complete make-up exams and assignments.  Late assignments will be deducted 25% of the grade and will not be accepted after chapter or unit testing.  Missing assignments will have zero points.  No late or absent work will be graded or accepted without a Homework Record Slip indicating why the work is not submitted on time.

Absences:  Class activities and homework are posted weekly online.  It is the student’s responsibility to check for missed work.  Absent work will be available in the maroon & gold cubbies.  If you are absent, you have the same number of days absent plus one to turn in your assignments.  No absent work will be graded or accepted without a Homework Record Slip indicating why the work is not submitted on time. All missed tests will be taken upon return from the absence.

Textbook & Materials:

All students will be issued a textbook, Prentice Hall:  Earth Science.  It is the responsibility of the student to keep the text in good condition.  If it is lost or damaged, it will not be replaced until the book is paid for.  Students are required to bring an organizer (binder or folder), paper and writing utensils (pen & pencils) to class each day.  Colored pencils and a simple calculator are recommended but not required.

Academic Honesty:

Each student is expected to do his/her own work.  In order to eliminate any confusion about what academic dishonesty includes, the following definitions will apply in earth space science class:

  1. Knowingly providing your work/answers to another student for them to copy as their own.
  2. Knowingly copying another student’s work/answers and submitting them as your own.
  3. Using illicit or banned materials during a test or quiz situation.
  4. Knowingly submitting work completed by another student/person as your own (plagiarism).
